1. Course Overview
This micro-course introduces open innovation as a structured approach to accelerate problem-solving and product/service development by leveraging external ideas, partners, customers, startups, universities, and ecosystems. Participants build a lightweight open-innovation plan for one real problem.
2. Learning Outcomes
Define open innovation and differentiate inbound vs outbound approaches.
Select suitable open-innovation mechanisms (challenges, partnerships, incubators, hackathons, licensing).
Map an ecosystem of stakeholders and design a collaboration model.
Identify key risks (IP, confidentiality, quality, governance) and mitigation actions.
Draft a simple open-innovation initiative plan with metrics and next steps.
3. Delivery Approach (Online)
Format: Live online with case discussion + collaborative worksheet.
Method: Concept briefings (10-12 min) + guided planning activity.
Pre-class: Participants choose one innovation challenge/problem from their context (e.g., student services, marketing, product, process).
5. Assessment and Completion Criteria
Completion is based on submission of a 1-page Open Innovation Canvas plus a short pitch.
Optional peer feedback using a simple rubric: clarity, feasibility, partner fit, risk coverage, measurable KPIs.
